A Danish merchant seaman who volunteered for commando training in UK, 1940; member of the Small Scale Raiding Force, took part in operation Postmaster in Equatorial Africa and in cross-Channel raids; after several exploits in the Aegean under Ian Lapraik of SAS, joined 2nd Special Service Brigade in Italy; led important diversionary raid on strong German position on North shore of Lake Comacchio, North West of Ravenna 8/9 April 1945: silenced two pillboxes with Mills grenades: mortally wounded while attacking a third: ordered his companions to withdraw rather than risk trying to save him.
