Burma Rifles, SOE

Pre-war military service in Burma: seconded to Burma Levies, January 1942: supported by SOE Oriental Mission, raised a force of Karens in the Salween District: remained with them after Japanese invasion of Burma.   SOE’s India Mission dropped a party of Karens to find him, February 1943, contact not made until October when Major J Nimmo was parachuted in.  Nimmo and another officer were ambushed and killed, February 1944, after which Seagrim gave himself up to the Japanese to spare the Karens from further brutal reprisals.  Executed September 1944.  Posthumously awarded George Cross.
